Evidence-based practice involves combining the strongest available evidence with the healthcare workers professional expertise and the client’s needs, while also accounting for the practice setting. While implementing evidence-based practice has been associated with improved quality of care and patient outcomes, nurses continue to face numerous barriers when it comes to integrating EBP into their daily practice (Brunt, B.A., Morris, M.M., 2023). Two barriers that nurses face when it comes to implementing evidence-based practice is lack of time and lack of administrative support. Nurses frequently experience heavy workloads that leave little time for research activities and the implementation of evidence-based practice. A recent cross-sectional study conducted in Saudi Arabia found that most nurses reported that searching for and critically appraising evidence was time-consuming, creating psychological barriers that discouraged them from pursuing opportunities to apply EBP in clinical practice. Through this study, nurses reported a lack of sufficient time to search for and review evidence due to high workloads and staffing shortages. Lack of time can addressed by implementing adequate staffing and appropriate staff to patient ratios to reduce ones workload. Administrative support plays a critical role in fostering a culture of EBP. Leadership plays a key role in promoting evidence-based practice by engaging staff, supporting an EBP-focused culture, and providing adequate resouraces and infrastructure. This approach enhances professional practice by empowering clinicians to participate in clinical decision-making and apply the best available evidence. Nevertheless, research shows that EBP initiatives may not be a priority, even when evidence clearly supports their effectiveness (Ongori, D.M., Kabo, J.W., 2024). Lack of administrative support can be improved by having leaders that actively promote the importance of evidence-based practice, implementing proper communication, and having proper allocation of resources.
