reply to this post: Evidence-based practice (EBP) projects do not always yield statistically significant results; however, this does not mean the intervention lacks value. Statistical significance refers to the likelihood that study results are not due to chance, typically determined through statistical testing and p-values. A statistically significant result suggests a measurable difference between comparison groups that meets predefined probability thresholds. While important for research rigor, statistical significance can be influenced by sample size, study duration, and data variability, which may limit its detection in small or practice-based projects (Moussa & Ismail Al-Nersh, 2025). In contrast, clinical significance focuses on the practical, real-world importance of an intervention and its meaningful impact on patient care, safety, and outcomes. Clinical significance considers whether the observed changes improve patient experiences, reduce complications, enhance workflow efficiency, or promote safer care, even if the changes do not reach statistical thresholds. For example, a modest reduction in surgical site infections (SSIs), earlier identification of wound complications, or improved patient understanding of wound care may be clinically meaningful despite not being statistically significant. In this capstone project, clinical significance can be used to support positive outcomes by highlighting improvements associated with the nurse-led standardized postoperative infection-prevention bundle (Zahid et al., 2025). Even if SSI rates do not show statistically significant reductions, evidence of improved nursing compliance with aseptic techniques, increased consistency in wound assessments, enhanced patient education, and earlier reporting of infection symptoms demonstrate meaningful practice improvements. These outcomes directly contribute to patient safety and quality of care. Additionally, clinical significance supports sustainability and future practice change by demonstrating feasibility, staff engagement, and positive patient feedback. Documenting trends toward reduced infections, improved documentation accuracy, and stronger nurse leadership reinforces the value of the intervention. Ultimately, emphasizing clinical significance allows the project to demonstrate its contribution to safer postoperative care, justify continued implementation, and support expansion of standardized infection-prevention practices despite limitations in statistical findings.
