reply to this post In my Topic 7 Capstone Project Evaluation Plan, the independent variable is the implementation of a standardized nurse-led labor support education program for labor and delivery nurses at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, a Dignity Health facility. This education focuses on evidence-based labor support strategies such as continuous bedside support, maternal positioning and mobility, nonpharmacologic pain management, and shared decision-making. The independent variable is intentionally manipulated by providing structured education and encouraging consistent use of these practices during labor. The dependent variable being measured is the primary cesarean section rate among nulliparous, term, singleton, vertex (NTSV) births, which is a key quality metric tracked by Dignity Health and reported through national benchmarks such as CMS and the Joint Commission. Reducing primary cesarean deliveries aligns with organizational goals related to maternal safety, quality outcomes, and value-based care. I hypothesize that implementing standardized nurse-led labor support education will lead to a measurable reduction in NTSV primary cesarean rates at St. Joseph’s Medical Center when compared to baseline data prior to implementation. As nurses gain confidence and consistency in supporting physiologic labor, patients may experience improved coping, fewer unnecessary interventions, and increased satisfaction. Overall, the expected change in the dependent variable is improved birth outcomes that support Dignity Health’s mission of delivering high-quality, patient-centered maternity care.
